Who hasn’t ever hesitated at the 28 bus stop
and thought: there goes my life’s metaphor?
and not even for thinking this, do you manage to escape
the weir that alone stops so many people.
It’s not possible to be happy with so much correspondence
and between ourselves who set off on romantic itineraries
the cross over the tobacconist’s is but the notice
to have your hair washed against pessimism.
If the little fire of being alive doesn’t cosy you up
don’t fret about the weather forecast
a station in hell will always be your destiny.
